Everything You Need to Know, Clearly Explained
We believe transparency builds trust. Here you’ll find clear, honest answers to the most common questions about our programs, process, and expectations.
Who is Core Principles Norwalk for?
We’re built for adults 50+ who feel intimidated by regular gyms, haven’t exercised in a while (or ever), and want a coach to guide them. Most of our members come in with real‑world aches and limitations and just want to feel stronger, steadier, and more confident.
Am I too old or too out of shape to start?
No. Many of our members start in their 50s, 60s, and 70s with very little exercise history. We meet you exactly where you are and progress at a pace that feels safe and doable.
Can you work around my knee / hip / back issues?
Yes. We specialize in working with joint replacements, arthritis, old injuries, and “I’m afraid of getting hurt” stories. We simply adjust the exercises and equipment so you can train safely without flaring things up.
Do your trainers have experience with people my age?
All of our coaches have years of experience working almost exclusively with adults 50+. They’re trained to modify for pain, balance issues, and medical history, not just push you harder.
What’s the difference between you and a regular gym?
We’re not a room full of machines where you’re on your own. Every visit is coach‑led in a small group, with a clear plan and eyes on your form from start to finish.
Is this a group class or personal training?
We offer small‑group personal training: one coach with up to six clients, each on their own personalized plan. You share the hour and the coach, but your exercises, weights, and progressions are tailored to your body and goals.
What does a typical session look like?
You’ll check in with your coach, warm up, then move through strength, balance, and mobility work designed for you. We watch your form, adjust on the fly, and finish with a cool‑down so you leave feeling better than when you walked in.
I’m nervous I’ll hold the group back. What if I’m the slowest one?
Everyone is on their own program, so you’re never “behind.” Your coach will quietly scale exercises up or down so you’re challenged at your level while the rest of the group does the same at theirs.
Do I need a doctor’s clearance before starting?
If you have major cardiac history, recent surgery, or your doctor has given you specific restrictions, we recommend clearing any new program with them first. Otherwise, we’ll go through a detailed health questionnaire and movement screen before you train.
How do you keep me safe during workouts?
We start with an assessment, ask about your medical history, and note your red‑flags before you ever touch a weight. During sessions we coach every rep, avoid risky moves for older joints, and progress slowly based on how your body responds.
Can you help with balance and getting up off the floor, not just “working out”?
Yes. A big part of our programming focuses on balance, leg and core strength, and confidence with everyday tasks like stairs, carrying groceries, and getting up and down safely. The goal is to help you stay independent longer, not just sweat.
Do you offer one‑on‑one training as well?
Yes. For folks who are very deconditioned, coming back from bigger injuries, or who just prefer more privacy, we offer 1:1 personal training alongside our small‑group sessions.
How often should I come each week?
Most members train two or three times per week for best results. We’ll help you choose a schedule that fits your life and recovery so you can actually stick with it.
What if I’ve never lifted weights before?
That’s our norm, not the exception. We teach you every movement from scratch, using lighter versions first, and only progress when you feel ready.
What should I wear and bring to my first session?
Comfortable clothes you can move in and supportive sneakers are perfect. You don’t need designer workout clothes, it’s not a scene here. We have everything you need.
How does your trial or “getting started” program work?
We start new members with a short, structured kickstart program so you can experience the coaching, see how your body responds, and decide if it’s the right long‑term fit. During that time we’ll also walk you through membership options and pricing.
Do I have to sign a long‑term contract?
No. Our memberships are ongoing with a simple 28 notice period to make changes, so you’re not locked into a long-term agreement. We earn your business by delivering results and a great experience each month.
What if I need to pause because of travel or medical issues?
We understand life happens. We have a straightforward freeze policy for things like extended travel or medical events so you’re pausing your membership and not paying when you can’t realistically attend.
Do you work with men as well, or only women?
Our Norwalk studio is built primarily around the needs of women 50+, which shapes our environment, schedule, and programming. If you’re outside that, reach out and we’ll let you know honestly if we’re the best fit.
How quickly will I see results?
Most members start noticing changes in energy, confidence, and ease with daily tasks within the first few weeks. Bigger strength and balance improvements build over the first 3–6 months as you stay consistent.
