Ever Feel Like Something is More Work Than It’s Worth?
That’s exactly what I thought on Sunday night before St. Patrick’s Day when my son looked up at me with big, hopeful eyes and asked:
“Dad, do you have the leprechaun’s phone number? Mom said you might.”
Apparently, his teacher told him she had a direct line to the leprechaun, so naturally, he assumed I did too. (I mean, duh.)
Now, if you don’t know, modern leprechauns are sneaky little troublemakers who sneak into people’s homes in the middle of the night just to make a mess. Because, you know, progress.
I was ready to shut this down fast.
No number. No mess. No extra chaos.
But my wife? She had other ideas.
She wanted to go all out—confetti bombs, tiny green footprints, total kitchen destruction.
“Just imagine how excited they’ll be!” she said.
But all I could imagine was Monday morning—already hectic—now with the added joy of vacuuming glitter out of the toaster.
Nope. Not happening.
But—you know where this is going—my wife won me over. (She usually does.)
Leprechaun Mayhem Ensued.
We went all in. Flour footprints on the counters, chairs knocked over, confetti bombs everywhere, every drawer and cabinet open, and paper plates scattered across the floor.
It looked like a tiny Irish tornado had blown through our kitchen.
Morning came, and I woke the boys with my best concerned dad voice:
“Hey, guys… we have a real problem in the kitchen.”
Their eyes lit up. They leapt out of bed, ran downstairs, and the second they saw the mess?
Pure joy.
They squealed, pointed at every little detail, and before we knew it, they even broke into what I can only describe as the worst attempt at Riverdance in history (a skill they proudly picked up at school on Friday).
And you know what?
It was worth it.
The cleanup that I dreaded? Didn’t even bother me. Their happiness outweighed every ounce of hassle.
What Does This Have to Do with Strength Training?
So many people I talk to know they need to get stronger.
They want to:
✅ Feel more confident
✅ Move better
✅ Be more active
But the thought of starting?
That’s where the hesitation kicks in:
- “I don’t know what to do.”
- “What if I do it wrong?”
- “Gyms are intimidating.”
- “It’s going to be uncomfortable.”
- “What if I get hurt?”
So, they put it off.
Because at first glance, it feels like more work than it’s worth.
But here’s what I can tell you:
Just like that leprechaun mess, the joy that comes after is 100% worth it.
After a workout, you won’t regret it.
You’ll feel:
✅ Proud that you did what you said you would.
✅ Energized instead of drained.
✅ Stronger in a way that makes daily life easier.
✅ Confident that your body can handle what you want it to.
✅ Happier (because those post-workout endorphins don’t lie).
Getting started might feel like a lot—but it’s always worth it.
And here’s the thing…
