Showing Up For Yourself When You Don’t Want To

Are you ready for a short little story?

Just this past Monday as I was greeting all of our superheroes in the garage, taking their temperatures, and seeing how their weekend was I got a few different reactions.

Some people had a great weekend, we’re feeling rested and rejuvenated, while others were not feeling their best.

One of our long-time Superheros, Sal, said that he was pretty achy that day and really didn’t want to be there. Of course, I didn’t take any offense to this because I know how much Sal loves to sing some Frank Sinatra while working out and listening to a few of my terrible jokes.

Guess what! At the end of the workout, Sal said he felt so much better and was glad that he showed up. He was now ready to take on the day.

I know this isn’t a super fascinating or sexy story but it is something people do not give themselves enough credit for.

Simply showing up for yourself on the days when you don’t want to is a huge win. We are all human, some days you are not going to feel 100 percent and that is normal.

If you want to see real success you are going to have to show up on the good and bad days.

Now, this doesn’t mean that if you’re not feeling great you should go workout at max capacity and injure yourself. Take it easy, do fewer reps, go down in weight a little, or maybe just go for a light walk. I guarantee you will feel so much better when you are done.

Next time you are thinking about canceling a workout or walk remember Sal, then show up for yourself and give yourself a huge pat on the back for doing so.
