Future 5
Program
During the first week of April, Core Principles had the opportunity to speak with Stamford High School students who participate in the
Future 5
program.
Future 5
is a local non-profit organization that works with Stamford High School students. Its main goal is to support high school student members and connect them to their community, to coaches, to colleges, to careers, and most importantly, to themselves.
The philosophy of
Future 5
is to bring the community and students together to strengthen a student’s self-esteem through character building workshops, job preparation programs, and one-on-one coaching.
Future 5
students develop the motivation and a game plan for achievement in school and life by being exposed to the can-do attitude of the
Future 5
brand. The program teaches them the importance of resilience, grit, follow-through, and integrity. Find out more about this great program here:
Core Principles provided the students with information about the strength and conditioning profession, what is means to be a fitness coach and some of the paths individuals take to become fitness coaches. We also explained how we help people and demonstrated how the support and leadership Core Principles provides to its clients is similar to the approach used by the
Future 5
program.
Some of the topics we touched on included taking initiative, utilizing a coach to help achieve one’s objectives, putting a plan together, commitment, and having fun
. One of the highlights was having the students participate in an exercise to help restore proper breathing patterns, a technique we use with our clients.
